FAIR MARKET VALUE: inadequate compensation for harm to pets

We love our pets like family.

They trust us with their lives and health.

They trust us with their lives and health.

They trust us with their lives and health.

They trust us with their lives and health.

They trust us with their lives and health.

They're our constant companions.

They trust us with their lives and health.

But if something goes wrong at the vet's office?

But if something goes wrong at the vet's office?

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

But if something goes wrong at the vet's office?

You get an urn and an apology.

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

Because under current law your pet is generally worth less than your toaster.

Few standards - no remedies

Ernie's Death Taught Us That Pets Deserve More

Our beloved 5-year-old Yorkie died at the hands of an unlicensed, inadequately trained employee of a veterinary facility in Phoenix, Arizona in January 2020.

Because the employee was not licensed or certified, the state Veterinary Board was unable to take any action against them. The employee went on to accept a higher-paying job at another facility, and to the best of our knowledge, is still providing direct care to animals.

Because Arizona courts limit damages for the loss of an animal to the animal's fair market value, we were unable to get meaningful relief in the court system.

We want to emphasize that money was never our goal, and we are not seeking to raise money for any cause. But the current system provides no incentive for competence in unlicensed personnel.

We are honoring Ernie's legacy by fighting to help other pet owners obtain the quality of care that Ernie didn't get. By raising standards, and expanding available monetary recovery for harm to pets, all Arizona veterinary personnel would be incentivized to be more careful. Please contact your legislator and join the cause for better veterinary care for all.

Sincerely,

The Kravetz Family

Gary, Lisa, Shane, and Brookelynn
